With a new car, new sponsors plus a different strategy, Julius Mugambwa is indeed eyeing this year’s 4×4 Truck Challenge championship title.

Navigated by Sean Oseku, Mugambwa initiated his contention with victory during the first round of 4×4 challenge over the weekend at Nsimbe Estate, Mpigi.

The Betway sponsored crew skillfully manoeuvred through the challenging course in 2 minutes and 39seconds to the take the lead.

“It has been an exciting event, I should say. We did an assessment from the previous competitions we had and the technical advise was to go for a smaller car which we did and we are glad it has won its maiden event,” explained Mugambwa.

Unlike before, Mugambwa featured in a newly acquired Suzuki Vitara instead of his Land Rover.

“The Land Rovers were my favourite. They had power and were fast but proved more challenging to manoeuvre through the terrain.”

“So we opted for a smaller car with a smaller chassis but still can do both the speed and power and can easily manoeuvre through corners,” he said.

In second place was Micheal Waswa followed by Vincent Acidri and Frank Tatya in fourth.

Mugambwa and Oseku also made their debut in the Autocross championship after topping the 4×4 challenge.

They finished 17th overall out of the 23 crews that made it to the start on Saturday.

“I see much more competition in Autocross. We believe Autocross will help us train and more skills, learn the rally technicalities, get used to the roads as well as having more fun racing,” said Mugambwa.

The second round of Autocross and 4×4 challenge are sent for 10-12 June in Nsimbe Estate.
