When the Africa Volleyball Clubs championship volleys off on April 5 in Tunis, it will be a chance for youngster Sharon Amito to showcase her skills on the floor.

Going to Tunisia for the second time in two years, Amito is confident the time has come for her to show that what she can do in Uganda she can replicate at continental level.

“I expect to improve as player. I will play better than I did last year because it was my first time,” the center player told Kawowo Sports after the team was flagged off on Monday morning.

“I have improved my serve and my defense has also been better this year,” she added.

Amito is one of the junior players on the Ndejje Elites team but has steadily improved since joining the Johnson Kawenyera coached side.

The youngster also believes the challenge for Ugandan teams on the continent has everything to do with playing better prepared sides rather than Ugandan teams being weak.

“I wouldn’t blame it on clubs, its general because the teams from other countries are always prepared much better”

With three appearances at the Championship, Ndejje’s best performance is an 8th place finish in Antananarivo, Madagascar in 2013.

Ndejje is Uganda’s only representative at the tournament with National Clubs Championship winners, Sport-S failing to raise funds for the tournament.

Team captain Belinda Jepkirui, Saidat Nnungi, Maureen Mwamula, Jesca Kaidu and Christine Alupo are some of the senior players Ndejje will rely on to have another go at beating their best finish.

The university side, winners of last year’s women’s league, started the year with a strong message to their challengers, winning the Joan Cox tournament before losing to Sport-S in the Ndejje Open finals.

While head coach Kewenyera believes a quarter-final berth will be a good achievement, Amito is adamant the team will take each game as it comes.

To qualify for the championship, Ndejje defeated Nkumba to win the national league title.
