The world motorsport governing body; Federation Internationale De L’automobile (FIA) has overturned the new scoring system for the Africa Rally Championship (ARC).
The system which was introduced this season, required all ARC contenders to finish in top ten positions overall to be eligible to score points. A crew would be awarded points for the position finished in.
The FIA has however now opted for the old system.
“FIA have awarded points based on the old system (only registered crews), saying that I did not make it clear enough and so we have to use this system through the year,” reads an email from Muna Singh Snr to FIA ARC affiliated members.
Surinder Thathi, the FIA Vice President in charge of Africa clarified more on the matter.
“The new scoring system was only suggested during the CACMs meeting last year in August. But it was yet to be included in the FIA ARC regulations.
“So FIA says the crews were not notified early enough the fact that it was not noted in the regulations,” he explained to Kawowo Sports.
“Besides, FIA insists to have ARC category awarded alone and not along with the rest of the competitors in a given event.”
The new scoring system will now be put to hold till next year when it is incorporated in the FIA regulations.
The move automatically makes ten crews that completed the second round of the ARC; Safari Rally last month qualify for ARC points.
