Kololo SS will not play any further part in this year’s Schools Rugby League.
The Kololo outfit were disqualified on grounds of fielding a player who is not a student at the school.
The decision was reached on Wednesday afternoon with the Uganda Schools Rugby Association (USRA) revealing that Daniel Katerega, a former student of Kololo SS, had played as the side defeated Kings College Budo 7-0 to book a finals slot.
Katerega is said to be a student at Jinja SS but turned up and played for his former school, something that was raised to the association by Budo.
Now, Budo will take Kololo SS’ place in Saturday’s final set to be held at Kyadondo Rugby Club.
“After thorough investigation and deliberation on a one Kateregga Daniel who featured for Kololo SSS against King’s College Budo in the second semi-final of the Schools Rugby League last Saturday, we have concluded our findings and proved beyond reasonable doubt that the said player is not a student of Kololo SSS but instead studying at Jinja SSS,” a statement from USRA read.
“We have thus disqualified Kololo SSS from any further participation in remaining match which is the final. King’s College Budo gets a nod to play Namilyango College in the final to take place this Saturday the 8/4/2017 at Kyadondo.”
Kololo are no strangers to controversy in the schools league, the side refused to honour their finals fixture with Hana Mixed in 2015 after one of their players was found ineligible to play in the final.
