Sadolin Paints coach Peter Kirumira was thrilled with his team’s defensive ability in their 2-1 victory over Onduparaka in the Uganda Cup on Sunday at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

First half goals from Fred Kyambade and Nasser Muzamiru were enough to hand the Jinja outfit victory as they ejected last year’s finalists from the competition.

And Kirumira who watched his side outplayed in the second half was full of praise for his team as they advanced to the semifinals.

“We are very excited for having won this game. It was not an easy game, but we got our two goals earlier on and had to defend very well. We invited pressure in the second half but we defended very well. We had to fight until the very end, we defended very well and we were very solid.

“The focus now is on the semi-finals, we want to be in the finals, you can’t tell what finals can bring; anyone can take the final. We want to be in the Green Light Stadium.”

Ceaser Okhuti scored Onduparaka’s goal, but the striker looked to be offside. The controversial goal plus a couple of suspicious refereeing decisions that appeared to go Onduparaka’s way spurred the exchange of blows between the two teams.

Asked what he made of the officiation, Kirumira said: “Referees decisions are very difficult to tell. I’m on the bench, I can’t really say he was offside or not, but what I can say, Ojik was fouled. The referee turned his back on us. He gave Ojik a yellow card, yet it was clearly a foul. That should have been a penalty. Other decisions, it’s the referee to decide, but that’s always pressure.”
