When Uganda U18 National Team head coach Nicholas Natuhereza named the team to face Kenya in the Afrobasket qualifiers last year, there were many unfamiliar faces to most fans.
One of the unfamiliar faces on the team was that of shooting guard, Ivan Muhwezi but he announced himself in the two games against Kenya and during the FIBA Africa U18 Championship in Kigali, Rwanda.
The Buddo Secondary School player who thrives in the open court was signed by KIU Titans and played at the UCU Invitational tournament where they finished third.
While he looked impressive in the two-day tournament, the youngster who is in his final year of high school may not play any part in the league this year.
“Ivan (Muhwezi) is a very good young player but the league is too demanding,” Titans coach Hamza Nyambogo said. “He is still in school and (to us) studies are important,” he added.
“We have made some very good additions to the team and we feel he (Muhwezi) should have enough time for his studies.
“We will have discussions with his school and see if he can have some training sessions with us because we don’t want to interfere with his school program but may be during holidays (he will play),” the coach added.
To the core of last season, KIU added Micheal Bwanga, Oscar Muge, Francis Mbuyi as well as Gideon Kasasa.
Edwin Kateregga who has been out due to troubling knee is expected to ready to play by the second round.
