The most successful institution in Schools Rugby, Namilyango College, won their 10th title after a comprehensive 22-00 win over Kings College Budo at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds over the weekend.

With last year’s losing finalists Kololo SS eliminated in the boardroom on grounds of fielding an ineligible player, Namilyango found themselves in an easier fixture with Budo in the U-19 category.

The oldest secondary school in Uganda made all the three finals in the U-15, U-17 and the U-19 categories. Rivals St. Mary’s College Kisubi only managed the U-15 final while Budo made two appearances in the U-17 and the main cup (U-19).

The juniors set the ball rolling in the U-15 game that saw Namilyango take on rivals SMACK.

Playing on a soggy ground, the two sides went at each other and could not be separated until the last ten minutes when Namilyango found the way through with a drop goal that went on to decide the game.

With one title in the cabin, Namilyango still had a long way to go as the U-17 side ran onto the turf to square off with Budo in another highly regarded final.

Budo started strong and kept Namilyango deep in their half for the first 10 minutes of the game until the Mukono based side crossed the white chalk to open up what turned out to be a one-sided affair.

Namilyango registered their second win on the day with a 23-00 triumph to leave the burden to the school’s main team that still had to deal with Budo.

Namilyango fly half Hillary Kisitu converted a penalty early in the game before full back Emanuel Kinyera crossed the white chalk. Kenneth Mukama’s charges led 10-00 at halftime as Budo struggled to find their groove in the final.

Fahad Matovu and Mark Osuna touched down in the second half to ensure their side held on for a 22-00 win to complete a hat-trick on the day.
