KIU Open Finals
- Women: VVC 3-1 Sport-S (25-11, 20-25, 25-19, 25-20)
- Men: Sport-S 3-1 Sky (20-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-18)

For a team that was used to winning silverware year in year out, close to year without winning is such a long time.
Vision Volleyball Camp had last won silverware in March last year when they defeated Sport-S to win the Joan Cox tournament in Gayaza.
However, having lost the first two tournaments of the year to Sport-S and Ndejje Elites, Hannington Nsubuga’s charges recovered to win this year’s Kampala International University (KIU) Open tournament over the weekend.
VVC defeated Sport-S ladies’ 3-1 (25-11, 20-25, 25-19, 25-20) in the final to get their first test of silverware of this year.
Inspired by Margaret Namyalo on the day, VVC started the game in soaring fashion. The former Ndejje player eluded the Sport-S block for fun as VVC cruised to a 25-11 first set triumph.
Sport-S then recovered in the second set to take it 25-20 and set up a thrilling finale to the game.
Without the services of star player Peace Busingye, Sport-S attack was often tamed by VVC’s net defense marshaled by team captain Joan Nabbuto and the returning Irene Adeke.
New signing Irene Amoding started biting in attack in the third and fourth set to hand VVC the game with 25-19 and 25-20 scores to win the game for the Namboole side.
VVC had earlier defeated Nemostars 3-1 (25-10, 15-25, 25-06, 25-15) in the semifinals while Sport-S made light work of Espoir in straight sets.
In the men’s category, Sport-S defeated Sky 3-1 (20-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-18) to take the trophy home.
The attention for the teams will now turn to the Mbarara Open tournament that is slated for later this month at Mbarara University of Science and Technology.
