Having registered their first win at the Africa Clubs Championship on Sunday, Ndejje Elites needed a single win to progress to the quarterfinals of the event being held in Tunisia.

Johnson Kawenyera’s charges fell to Cameroonian outfit INJS in their final group game to remain in the group and miss out on making the quarterfinals.

Having fallen to Tunisian giants Carthage in straight sets in the opening game, Ndejje recovered in the second and defeated Ivory Coast giants ASEC 3-1 to brighten their chances of progressing.

A 25-19 triumph in the first set seemed to have set the ball rolling for the Ugandans against INJS but the Cameroonians recovered and took the second set 25-20 to tie the game.

INJS then took the lead, capitalizing on Ndejje’s mistakes for a 25-19 in the third set.

Ndejje had to dig deep to keep their hopes alive, and they did, leveling matters with a 25-21 score to force a decisive set.

However, the West Africans turned up the better side in the decider and took the set 15-11 to win the game and join Carthage in the quarters.

Drawn in Pool A, the Ugandan outfit have lost to Carthage in straight sets before defeating ASEC of Ivory Coast in their second game.

The game with INJS was a decider for the two sides battling for a quarterfinal berth and the West Africans nicked it to put an end to Ndejje’s dream of making the quarters.

Ndejje, who made their debut on the continent in 2013, are Uganda’s only representatives at the event and will now look to play for a better position in the classification games.

The team’s best performance came in 2013 when they made their debut in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

Vision Volleyball Camp remain as Uganda’s best performing side at the event having posted 7th place finish in 2014.
