Police Vs Vipers – Mandela National stadium, Namboole
Police FC battle Vipers on Friday afternoon in the Premier League aware that nothing short of maximum points will leave them in a poor position as regards to relegation survival.
The Cops, 13th on the log with 25 points are winless in six successive games and host an equally wounded Vipers side that are winless in their previous three games in all competitions.
Abdallah Mubiru, formerly at Vipers will still be in the stands on the day as he ends his two-match touchline ban but remains positive the boys will put up a decent show.
“It’s hard to explain the poor run of results,” he said. “But the boys are fighting hard and their reaction in training has been superb and hopefully, we kick start another good run with a decent result against Vipers,” he added.
Mubiru hailed his opponents as a good side and one that will be difficult to play against.
They are decent and play some good football, with quality players but we shall be up to the task.
The Cops have suffered a setback in their battle to beat the drop in recent weeks, after enduring to defeats against fellow relegation fighters Bul and Kirinya Jinja SS, but they will be hoping to make home advantage count here.
But the Venoms come into the game counting a brilliant record against their opponents. They have won 10 of their previous 23 league meetings and lost just 6.
Jorge Duarte Da Costa has rallied his boys to react positively following a shock exit from the Uganda Cup at the hands of FUFA Big League side, Paidha Black Angels.
Finishing number two is not the same as number four and this can be reached when we play well and win our games. I have told (the team), it’s very hard to look back right now because of our ultimate goal being cut short, but we can and still have more we can do.
Under Mubiru in the reverse fixture, Vipers pummeled Police 4-0 and it will be interesting if he masterminds another victory while on the opposite.
Police are without attacking midfielder, William Wadri (on loan from Vipers) as well as central defender Martin Mpuuga (suspension) while Vipers may have striker Tony Odur back in the team while midfielder Siraje Sentamu remains a doubt.
