Egyptian side Al Masry lead Ugandan champions KCCA FC at halftime in the CAF Confederation Cup playoff match being played at Ismailia Stadium.

Ahmed Gomma’s 25th minute goal is the difference between two sides playing for a place in the group stage of the second biggest club competition on the continent.

The hosts put the visitors on the back foot right from kickoff but their first real chance at goal arrived in the 15th minute when Gomma’s shot from the right went inches wide of Benjamin Ochan’s right hand post.

Al Masry kept asking questions, and in the 25th minute Gomma found the breakthrough with a cool finish from a through ball.

As the first half neared its end, center half, Islam Salem found himself in a scoring position and could have made two for the Egyptians but his header went wide.

Denis Okot was booked for protesting referees decision after he called a clear foul by Timothy Awany.

There is plenty to play for in the second half. If the score remains as it is, penalties will decide the tie.

KCCA XI: Benjamin Ochan (GK), Denis Okot (C), Paul Musamali, Timothy Awany, Habib Kavuma, Isaac Kirabira, Tom Masiko, Muzamiru Mutyaba, Paul Mucureezi, Brian Majwega and Derick Nsibambi.

Subs: Charles Lukwago (GK), Denis Rukundo, Isaac Muleme, Mustapha Kizza, Noel Nasasira, Allan Okello and Geoffrey Sserunkuma.
