The Zone 4.2 U-16 Team Chess Championships concluded on Saturday 22nd April, with Uganda finishing second last in the rank table.

The youngsters concluded the event with another embarrassing defeat as they lost 4-0 to Kenya Three in the closing round of the double round robin tournament on Saturday morning.

Having terribly lost their seven games, Uganda managed only one win and a couple of draws. That solitary win came in the seventh round against Kenya Four, and the two draws were against Tanzania who came last in the competition.

Marvin Atuhaire Bagonza and Pauline Biyinzika each managed three points, while team captain Denise Veronica Butungi managed a point she got in Uganda’s 3-1 win over Kenya Four.

After ten rounds of play, Kenya Two won the event after they won all their games. Kenya Two’s Aravind Vengarai emerged the best player at the event with a perfect 9/9. The Candidate Master won all his nine games.
