Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) will be holding the Girls Schools Cricket week starting on April 29th to May 4th in Kampala.

Jinja SS will be fighting to retain the championship they won last year when they beat Kololo SS in the final with this year’s action set be at Lugogo, Kyambogo, Gayaza, Ndejje and Buddo grounds.

The participating schools are defending champions Jinja SS, Kololo SS, Gayaza High School, Ndejje SS, Mukono Parents School, St James SS, Busoga High School, Mt Rwenzori Girls School, Masaka SS, Nyakasura School, Olila High School and Light SS.

As a mark of progress from the UCA Development Program there is a team from the Rwenzori Region (Mt. Rwenzori Girls School) and Light SS makes a comeback in the competition from the Teso Region.

Jinja SS still remain the favorites to win the title as they boast of national team players Stephanie Nampiina and Rita Musamali in their side. The team is coached by Habib Mugalula who has managed to win this title on more than 3 occasions with the same team.

However, Jinja SS will not have things their way, Kololo SS is formidable opposition and so is Ndejje SS as well as Gayaza High School.

The Joyce Mary led Soroti SS surprised everyone by making the semi finals last year and this year it will be business as usual for Ivan Kakande and his girls.

On their debut Mt. Rwenzori Girls School has no expectations but they have the power to surprise a few teams.

Masaka SS under the tutelage of Yusuf Nanga should also be very competitive.

Action starts on Sunday at the various grounds.

Denis has represented Uganda in international cricket events including the World Cup. He is currently the captain of Wanderers Cricket Club.
