With Rugby Cranes head coach John Duncan absent, his immediate assistant and former Rugby Cranes star Robert Sseguya is fully in charge.
After the trial game played on Saturday, Sseguya named a 30-man squad set to travel to Kenya on Tuesday for a build up clash with Kenyan side Kabras Sugar.
The list of 30 is highlighted with the return to action of Kobs winger Justin Kimono who has not played rugby for over a year.
Kimono, sidelined with a knee injury when the Rugby Cranes scaled the heights in the Tier 1A competition in 2016, is back to full fitness and Sseguya believes he will be a big part of the team when the international calendar unfolds on June 10.
The team also welcomes back hooker Alex Mubiru who walked away from the team after the Tier 1B tournament in 2015 citing unpaid allowances.
The Heathens number 2 skipped the Tier 1A championship where Uganda registered an important win in Zimbabwe to survive relegation.
The squad also features scrumhalf Ivan Makmot who had refused to honour the call up earlier because of unpaid allowances.
Missing in action will be injured flyhalf Ivan Magomu and Lawrence Ssebuliba who is busy with work. The two are, however, expected to join the team when it returns from Kenya.
Assistant captain Michael Wokorach and returnee Scot Oluoch also miss out with work commitments.
The game with Kabras is expected to give Uganda some competitive test before clashing with the Kenya Simbas in the first leg of the Elgon Cup in June.
“We are trying within our means to at least get a trial game. It is not the best but it’s what we can get at the moment,” Sseguya told Kawowo Sports Monday morning.
Uganda will face off with Kenya, Zimbabwe, Tunisia, Senegal and Namibia in the fight to win the Africa Cup and qualify for the World Cup 2019.
