Ugandan universities Uganda Christian University and Makerere University will play at this year’s 3×3 FISU World University League in Xiamen, China.

This is after the two universities won silver medals at the Afro-Varsity 3×3 Challenge held at United States International University in Kenya over the weekend.

The UCU ladies’ team and the Makerere University men’s team booked their places at the championship and will make appearances at the event set for September 14-17 in China.

UCU captain Vilma Achieng was joined by guards Ritah Imanishimwe, Rachael Muwanguzi and small forward Zainah Lokwameri as they battled, eventually falling just behind Senegal’s Institut Superieur d Entrepreneurship et de Gestion (ISEG) 21-19 in the final to settle for silver.

The UCU men’s team, comprising Jonathan Egau, Steven Wundi, Fadhil Chuma and Andrew Gang lost to their Ugandan counterparts Makerere in the semis to miss out on the ticket to China.

ISEG (Men and women), Makerere University (MAK) and Uganda Christian University (UCU) will represent Africa at the event.

ISEG qualified both its teams, after edging out University of Johannesburg (Men) and Makerere University (Women) in the semi-finals to book a place in the final.

FISU will cover the travel and full board accommodation costs of the teams’ four (4) players.

Each team will be allowed to register, at the team’s own cost, a maximum of one (1) official.

The next 3×3 competition organized by FASU will be during the 9th FASU Games in July 2018 at Mekele University – Ethiopia.
