KCCA manager Mike Mutebi has cast doubt on the future of midfielder, Ivan Ntege at the Lugogo based club.
Ntege, the longest serving KCCA player of the current squad has been in and out of Mutebi’s starting eleven and has mostly featured off the bench in recent matches.
In an interview on NBS TV Sunday Sports Show dubbed ‘Home & Away’ where Mutebi was tasked to comment on why Ntege hasn’t played as much of recent, the gaffer said. “When I signed Kirabira (Isaac), I told Ntege that there is something in Isaac that I don’t see in him,” he said. “Am being honest with my players and everyone in the game,” he added.
I think it’s high time we moved on from the mindset that a defensive midfielder must be a spoiler or one who just disrupts opponents play. He should be one able to play and not just being destructive.
Mutebi who has of recent played Tom Masiko and Muzamiru Mutyaba in the position at the expense of the KCCA number 4 gave an example of former Italian international Andrea Pirlo.
Pirlo played there well but he was never the hard tackler but a thinker.
The former Uganda Cranes coach has consistently said he is targeting a holding midfielder in the next transfer window with Express FC captain Ibrahim Saddam Juma and former Victors’ midfielder Abdallah Muhammad with whom he worked at SC Villa the most likely players to end up at Lugogo.
Ntege’s contract expires at the end of the season at Lugogo and reliable reports indicate there ain’t any negotiations going on.
