Mamelodi Sundowns chances of retaining the Premier Soccer League (PSL) title suffered another dent as they were held 2-2 by Platinum Stars.

The Brazilians, who went into the game on the back of a 1-0 loss to Bidvest Wits, also saw the gap at the summit widen to four points with four games to complete the season.

Thabo Nthethe saw Pitso Mosimane’s charges take the lead as early as the sixth minute but Ndumiso Mabena levelled nine minutes later for the Dikwena before putting the visitors in the lead ten minutes after recess.

Ivorian Yannick Zakri salvaged a draw for the reigning South Africa and African champions with his first goal since joining the club.

They could have gone on to win it but Liberian Anthony Laffor missed two glorious opportunities with only the goalie to beat.

Mosimane, the African Coach of the Year was happy to take a point despite admitting he is disappointed.

“I am, of course, disappointed with the result but we tried, you know,” said Mosimane on SuperSport TV. “We gave it our best shot.

But it’s lessons in football, and you never know, sometimes maybe you’re not happy with a point but we might need that point hey… But, to be honest, we should have won.

Elsewhere, Bidvest Wits edged Orlando Pirates 1-0 to rise to 54 points while Sundowns are second on 51 points.
