The second edition of the Premium Junior Chess Tournament is scheduled for next weekend (May 20-21) at Jevine Hotel, Rubuga.

The event, organized by Chess Life Academy, welcomes kids between the age of 8 and 20 both boys and girls, and it will be categorized under five sections – U8, U10, U12, U14 and U20.

Over 50 kids including Edgar Ampaire, Pauline Alicia- two of Uganda’s representative at last month’s Zone 4.2 U16 Team Chess Championships in Mombasa, Kenya- and the defending champion in the U20 category Peter Jaker have confirmed participation.

According to John Vianney Mukalazi, the Director Chess Life Academy, the holiday program is aimed at attracting and introducing more kids to the brainy game.

He said: “It is an opportunity to introduce the game to the children and also help improve those who are in it already. It is also a form of exposure to those kids who have never taken part in any competition.”
