El Merriekh goalkeeper Jamal Salim Magoola was pleased his side picked a point against rivals Al Hilal Omdurman in their first group game of the CAF Champions League.

The Uganda custodian was in goal for the Yellow and Red as they came from a goal down to snatch a point in the River Nile derby.

“It’s a good start,” Jamal told Kawowo Sports from his base in Khartoum. “Always first game is hard and making it worse, it was a derby which made it tougher but we had to keep our heads up because needed at worst a point,” he added.

The first half ended 1-0 in favour of the Blues and the former Express and KCCA goalie revealed the inspiration behind a brilliant second half show.

“The coaches told us to keep on pushing and to raise up from the one nil down.”

The two Sudan giants are tied on a point and sit adrift of Group A leaders Etoile Du Sahel of Tunisia who won 5-0 against Mozambique’s Ferroviaro Beira.
