onduparaka vs kirinya bigleague

George Kasonko praised his Kirinya-Jinja SSS teammates after their goalless draw against relegation candidates Lweza on Tuesday at Wankulukuku Stadium.

The Jinja outfit went into the game needing three points to confirm safety with one more game to go, but secured a point that may well keep them in the league as only a draw in their final game will see them cement their league status without depending on other teams’ results.

It was a hard-fought draw and Kasonko who has been a pivotal player at Kirinya praised his teammates.

“The approach was unlike us today because we were just defending. We didn’t play our passing game and we were at the back most of the time but the strategy paid off. Credit to the team. We were able to do what the coach told us.

“We got a couple of good opportunities but failed to convert but what is really important is we stopped an attacking and a very determined team from scoring. We didn’t concede and we picked up a very important point.

“It’s been tough season for us. Very difficult but we are this close to staying in the league.”

Tuesday’s victory lifted Kirinya-Jinja up to tenth. They are level on points [32] with their local rivals Bul but above them on goal difference.

They take on Proline in their final game of the campaign at Njeru Technical Ground.
