Henry Kalungi

Uganda Cranes’ defender Henry Kalungi has been named to the United Soccer League team of the week following his impressive performances for Charlotte Independence all through.

Kalungi was at the helm of the their defensive sharpness when they hosted New York Red Bulls II. Even though his side conceded first, the team came to score five for a memorable win.

Charlotte Independence started on a slow pace, conceding first off Junior Flemmings toe poke but the lead barely lasted as Jorge Herrera pounced, Callum Ross later doubling two minutes into the break.

Kalungi and colleagues kept it tight at the back as Enzo Martinez added his third of the season and also assisted David Estrada’s 82nd minute goal, Jamie Siaj sealing the win with the fifth in the 2nd minute of extra time.

Charlotte Independence set a record this season as their greatest win margin.

Kalungi – who credited the team for the accolade – was voted along side teammate Jorge Herrera. He recorded a goal and assist in the same match.
