
Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) has partnered with the European Union (EU) as the international body marks 60 years of integration.
This followed a visit of the EU Ambassador to Uganda, Kristian Schmidt to the FUFA headquarters in Mengo, Kampala.
Accompanied by the EU Press and Information Officer (Political Section), Emmanuel Davies Gyezaho, the ambassador held talks with the FUFA president, Moses Magogo before addressing the press.
Magogo expressed gratitude for European Union’s interest to assist FUFA in developing the beautiful game in Uganda.
As quoted by the official FUFA website, Magogo noted;
I thank the European Union for having the confidence in us thus the partnership ahead of celebrating 60 years of integration.
Being trusted by such a big institutions means you have kept truck of our performance and therefore we are proud of that
He also appreciated the EU for the contribution to Uganda’s infrastructural development which has also helped out football activities, hinting on the Northern by pass which has eased transport to and from Mandela National Stadium which is the main host stadium for the Uganda national football team, the Uganda Cranes.
The European Union Ambassador to Uganda congratulated Magogo upon his recent appointment as member of the CAF Executive Committee and also congratulated Uganda upon qualifying for AFCON 2017 after 39 and Uganda emerging as the African National team of the year 2016.
I congratulate you for the recent appointment as a Member of the CAF Executive Committee and Uganda qualifying for the African Championships after a long period of time together with emerging as the National team of the year 2016.
EU believes in development of health and youth and accordingly think football is a good avenue to address such and there for the Union has organized the Sports Gala among the activities to celebrate the 60 years of the European Union integration.
“We have decided to partner with FUFA to help us organize the sports gala especially the 5 aside football tournament,” noted Schmidt.
The sports gala will be held at Kabira Country club on Saturday 20th May 2017 with activities lots of activities and entertainment together with a health camp.
