Bul boss Peter Onen paid tribute to the hero of the day Robert Achema after the forward came off the bench to notch the goal that made sure of Bul’s stay in the Uganda Premier League.
Achema came on in the 58th minute against Onduparaka on Saturday, and his immediate task on the pitch was to take the free kick which he majestically did as he cancelled Dickens Okwir’s first half goal to save Bul from going down on the final day of the campaign.
“You know there are those players you need when things are not going very well; Achema is that player and he is very effective when he comes off the bench when the opposition is tired,” Onen said after the game.
“Today he came at the right moment when we needed him. You see we have three free kick takers. The one who takes those at the right, the one who takes those from the left and one who takes from the center. Achema is a specialist from the right. We had the other two in but we had to wait for him to enter, and he delivered what we expected of him. It was a beautiful goal from the specialist.”
Bul went down early in the first half after some brilliant work from Shaban Muhammad who set up Okwir for Onduparaka’s goal. Asked what was going through his mind when his team was trailing, Onen said: “Football is a very beautiful game. Things can change in a split of second. Dealing with that pressure was not easy but I had hope we would reply. I never lost hope.
“They scored early in the game but good enough we also scored early when the second half started. I said it was not over until it was over and today we fought just to prove that.”
Bul completed the season placed 11th with 33 points.
