Bul FC hero Robert Achema says there was hardly any doubt he would score against Onduparaka on the final day of the campaign.
The forward came off the bench to level matters for his side with his splendid free kick- his first touch on the ball- in the 58th minutes to secure a point for Bul that was just enough to secure league status for the soap makers.
Achema had waited for over five minutes for the center referee to signal for a change, and when he came on, his immediate task was to take the free kick that was a few yards from the box which he did superbly as he cancelled Dickens Okwir’s first half goal.
“I was not surprised when I scored just when I had entered,” Achema whose impact for the club this season has been witnessed when he comes off the bench said.
“I knew I would score today. I have been training very hard and I was scoring during our training. I scored free kicks in our training but I didn’t know it would be a free kick. I just knew I was going to score today. I had that feeling in me.”
The forward was raved each time he had the ball and his name was chanted throughout the evening, and when the final whistle was blown, fans rushed to hand their hero gifts that included money.
Achema, however, refuses to be tagged hero alone rather the entire team deserves the praise.
“No, I’m not the hero. We are all heroes. We all deserve the credit because it was not an easy game and we have been fighting as a team from day one. We have achieved our goal and this has been due to team work. Credit to the playing staff and the coaching staff as well plus our dear fans.”
Bul ended the campaign placed 11th with 33 points, and alongside Kirinya-Jinja SSS will be the only two sides from Jinja to play in the league next season.
The other two Jinja sides Sadolin Paints and JMC Hippos couldn’t survive the axe and will now play in the Big League next season
