It has been a tradition and norm.

Like in the previous editions, Kenyans had a clean sweep of the 2017 Kigali full marathon in both men and women categories.

Gilbert Chumba Kipleting won gold posting 2 hours, 19 seconds and 49 micro seconds ahead of his compatriots Edwin Kiyeng Kemboi and James Tallam who clocked 2:19:57 and 2:20:00 respectively.

Beatrice Rutto Jepkorir won the women gold with a time of 2:46:38.

Country-mates Pamela Bundotich Chepkoech won silver posting 2:47:21 and Sarah Jerop Legat bronze with a timing of 2:47:24.

Half marathon:

In the 21 km event, Kenya managed a 1-2 finish in the men’s event with the hosts winning third place.

Bartile Kipkoech Kipto and Ezekiel Mutai Kimeli clocked 1:04:25 and  1:05:38  to win gold and silver respectively.

Rwanda’s John Hakizimana fought for a podium finish with a time of 1:05:48 to win bag bronze.

Meanwhile, Rwanda’s Salome Nyirarukundo, born in Rustiro ended a decade-long jinx as she paced to the 21km  women gold.

Nyirarukundo, 20, beat a strong field of strong and powerful Kenyans with an incredible kick to halt the 12 dominance by Kenyan athletes.

She ran under one hour, 15 minutes and 28 seconds, edging Sheilla Chesang whi returned 1:20:24.

Another Rwandese, Claudette Mukasakindi worked for bronze with a timing of 1:20:36.
