Uganda Cranes goalie Robert Odongkara will spend close to six months on the sidelines after suffering a horrific leg injury during a CAF Champions League match.

This happened during St George’s goalless draw with former winners Esperance before a fully packed Addis Ababa Stadium on Tuesday.

Odongkara had been sidelined a couple of weeks ago before returning to guide St George to their 28th league success.

The injury early in the first half forced him out of the game and his place was taken by former Ethiopian international Zerihun Tadele.

The visitors granted their hosts numerical advantage when midfielder Ghilane Chalali was sent off on 64 minutes.

The Ethiopians welcomed back star striker Salahdin Said and midfielder Menetesnote Adane from suspension, although their Dutch coach Mart Nooij missed out through illness.

Esperance remains at the summit of Group C on four points, whilst group stage debutants Saint George have two points also from two games.

Holders Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, home to Uganda Cranes captain Dennis Onyango won 3-1 away at AS Vita of DR Congo.
