CAF U-17 Championship (3rd Place playoff):
- Guinea 3-1 Niger
- Man of the Match: Djibril Fandje Toure (Guinea)
Guinea overcame Niger 3-1 in the CAF U-17 third place playoff at the stade l’Amitie in Libreville.
The Le Syli Cadets scored through striker Djibril Fandje Toure who notched a double and Eldadj Abdourahamane Bah. Ibrahim Boubacar Marou scored the consolation for Niger.
The playoff between the two semifinal losers, however, started on a conscious note.
Both sides finished the opening 45 minutes goalless.
Danger man Toure finally got the opener and his fifth goal of the championship when he sliced ball behind Ibrahim after he breached the defence of the Menas.
Ten minutes later, Niger’s counter attacking tactics paid off as they caught the Guineans napping and Ibrahim Boubacar Marou drove the ball into the net for an equaliser.
Guinea went into the lead again through Bah in the 75th minute and few minutes later, Toure got his sixth goal of the championship; and was deservedly voted as the Total Man of the Match Award.
Both countries had already earned slots to play at the FIFA World U-17 Championships, alongside the two finalists Ghana and Mali who were the eventual tournament winners.
The world U-17 event will take place in India this August.
