Four-time National Basketball League defending champions City Oilers registered their first win of the season.

Oilers, who lost the season opener to Power, defeated UPDF Tomahawks 77-51 on Sunday evening at YMCA.

Mandy Juruni’s charges started the game with intention – holding Tomahawks scoreless in the opening five minutes and took the first quarter 17-7 and the lead never dropped to a single digit throughout the game.

James Okello once again turned in a strong performance to lead Oilers’ team effort. The forward scored game high 17 points to go with 5 rebounds. Stephen Omony stepped off the bench for 13 points while Tony Drileba had 11 points.

Felix Mukunzi, Henry Okoth and Moses Muhumuza scored 15, 14 and 12 points respectively in a losing effort.

Next games

UPDF Tomahawks will compete for space with Ndejje University Angels in their next game on Sunday, June 4 while City Oilers will battle steely Our Savior on the same day.
