Uganda Cranes’ defender Henry Kalungi saw yellow as his side – Charlotte Independence – succumbed to a 4-1 loss against North Carolina in the US Open Cup on Thursday.
Kalungi was shown yellow in the 43rd minute, a penalty that originally appeared to have been brandished at Callum Ross.
Charlotte Independence piled pressure early on – earning the first corner of the match.
Eight minutes later, Alex Martinez hit a lovely chipped pass into the box for David Estrada but he can’t get much on the shot.
Independence unfortunately conceded off a set-piece in the 17th minute.
James Marcelin gave NCFC the lead courtesy of a header from Lance Laing’s corner kick.
David Estrada earned Independence their second corner of the match but Herrera missed to trail at halftime.

Nazmi Albadawi doubled NCFC’s advantage in the second half, Charlotte’s Enzo Martinez blasting over one from the left side just outside the 18.
Kalungi was then taken off for Ekra and Townsend on for Herrera, but issues deteriorated further.
North Carolina’s Nazmi Albadawi and Connor Tobin both found the back of the net in the 82nd and 83rd minutes respectively.
Martinez netted the visitors’ consolation goal in extra time but it was just not enough to change anything.
