Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has confirmed a new date for the 2016/17 Uganda Cup final.

Originally planned for Saturday, 10th June 2017, now the final has been extended by four days to 15th June 2017 and the venue (Green Light stadium) remains unchanged.

Ali Mwebe, the head of the FUFA Competitions department confirmed the new change to Kawowo Sports;

Yes, the final of the Uganda Cup has been moved from 10th June to 15th June 2017.

The venue is still Green Light stadium in Arua as hosted by West Nile Football Association.

The change was effected in the interest of the different stakeholders.

One of the key reasons for the change forwarded was the clash of events.

On the first given date, Uganda Cranes shall be playing away to Cape Verde Islands in the opening Group L AFCON 2019 qualifiers.

For the second year running, a Big League side shall be play in the final after Onduparaka’s heroics last season.

Zombo-based club, Paidha Black Angels who ejected the reigning champions Vipers at the quarterfinal stage shall face KCCA in the epic clash.

The winner gets a trophy and Shs7M as prize money on top of gold medals.

Also, as per the competition rules, the winner of the Uganda Cup represents the country at the CAF Confederation Cup.

In the event Paidha Black Angels win, they will become the first non top flight side to represent the country at CAF competitions.

Just in case KCCA triumphs on the day, they will be ineligible to play in both the CAF Champions and Confederation Cup.

In this scenario therefore, FUFA reserves the right to determine which club has fulfilled all the requirements to represent the country on the continent, according to Ali Mwebe.

“For a club to represent the country on the continent, it has be with the First division licence which is the mandatory documentation submitted to CAF,” Mwebe stated.
