St George earned a hard fought 1-0 victory over Democratic Republic of Congo side AS Vita in a CAF Champions League Group C match on Sunday in Addis Ababa.

Lethal striker Said Saladin scored his sixth CAF Champions League goal as the Ethiopian side earned their first victory of in the group.

St George had not won any game, but rather worked for two well-earned points in goalless draws with Mamelodi Sundowns (away) and Esperance (home).

Salad slotted home inside the goal area on the hour mark for the precious winner.

His six goals make him the leading scorer in the elite African club competition this season with one more than Sudanese Bakary al Madina of Al Merrikh and Libyan Muaid Allafi of Al Ahly Tripoli.

Esperance leads the group with seven points after winning 2-1 in South Africa Friday.

Onyango’s Mamelodi Sundowns have four and Vita Club are with out a point following three consecutive defeats.

Group debutants Saint George host the defending champions on July 1.

Uganda Cranes players Yassar Mugerwa (midfielder) and goalkeeper Robert  Odongkara are part of the St George team.
