The Uganda Schools Select Side have made it 2-in-2 after holding their nerve to win a tense game in Kigali, Rwanda at the on going Kwibuka Peace tournament.

Both teams had won their games on day 1 with the Uganda Schools Select side defeating Rwanda while the Kenyans defeated the Uganda U23 side.

Kenya batted first and set a moderate 107/5 in their 20 Overs led by captain Mary Banja (29). The bowling unit for the Schools Select failed to make any inroads with Hope Wanichan (1/14) and Stephanie Nampiina (1/15) the pick of the bowlers.

In the chase, Kenya dragged the game till the last Over where Uganda managed to win by 1 wicket with 4 balls to spare. Schools Cricket Week MVP Immaculate Nakisuyi (32) was deadly with willow in hand and she got able partners in Stephanie Nampiina (15) and Hope Wanichan (17 not out).

In the morning game, Uganda’s U23 side managed to pick up their first win against Rwanda. The U23 side put on 108/9 with extras (30) top scoring for Uganda but Mary Nalule (21 not out) was in devastating form in the middle order.

Rwanda was never bothered about winning with Sarah Uwera scoring 31 off 68 balls which is unusual for a t20 game. Rwanda was eventually put on 75 in 20 Overs losing 4 wickets in the process, Janet Mbabazi 11 runs in 4 overs and team captain Getrude Chandiru 14 in 3 overs were the pick of the bowlers.

If the schools select side beat their senior counterparts tomorrow they will walk away with the winners prize in the round robin competition.

Rwanda will seek to win their 1st game against Kenya which will be a very big challenge for the hosts.
