In over 11 years of international football, Nigeria lost at home to South Africa.

The Super Eagles fell 2-0 at their Uyo based Akwa Ibom Godswill Akpabio fortress during an AFCON 2019 Group E qualifier played on Saturday.

After a goal-less first half, the game was lit up with the opening headed goal from Rantie Tokelo on 55 minutes after a telling cross from right back, Ramahlwe Mphahlele.

Second half substitute, Percy Tau put the game to bed with a great solo with 8 minutes left on the clock.

Tau’s goal followed an explicit through ball he raced to ahead of the advancing goalkeeper Akpeyi.

He side stepped the goalie before slotting the ball into an empty net for the second goal with just two touches after his introduction.

Libya, who had won 5-1 earlier on Friday against Seychelles in Egypt lead the group.

The next round of games will be played on 23rd March 2018.

Seychelles will entertain Nigeria as South Africa plays host to Libya on the same day.
