In a low scoring final, experience was key in helping Kenya defeat the Uganda Schools Select in the final of the Kwibuka Peace Tournament.
The Schools Select side were the only unbeaten team in the 4 team event and were firm favorites to win the game but a very experienced Kenya side with many seasoned campaigners was able to defend their 87 runs.
Kenya batted first and scored 87/9 in their 20 Overs with team captain Margaret Banja (35 not out) leading from the front. None of the bowlers stood with Rita Musamali, Patricia Malemikia, Jane Baluka, Joyce Mary Apio and Stephanie Nampiina picking a wicket each.
In the Chase the Ugandans failed to hold their nerve eventually being bundled out for 69 with only Stepahnie Nampiina (28) and Jane Francis Baluka (16) making notable contributions.
However, the Ivan Kakande led side will be very proud of themselves for showing a lot of maturity finishing ahead of their senior counterparts the U23 side who finished 3rd after defeating Rwanda in the 3rd and 4th placement game.
The team arrives in Kampala today from Kigali.
