In the aftermath of Uganda’s precious 1-0 away win against Cape Verde, Coach Mulitin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic eager to improve on that decent run.
The Cranes through Geoffrey Sserunkuma goal in the last quarter of the game edged the hosts to maintain a run that has seem them only lose to Burkina Faso since 2014.
“I want to remind you that since 2014 in qualifiers, we have only lost one game,” Micho told the post-match press conference in Praia. “That was in Burkina Faso when they won through a penalty by Pitroipa,” he added.
We want to continue our run because there is still room for improvement and also room for development.
On the match against the Islanders, Micho admitted it could go either way depending on the chances created but delighted the moment that decided game was in favour of his charges.
Game could go either way because you had chance and Onyango saved and we also forced a save the other side. That one moment decided game and we are happy that moment is on our side. You know, together with Cape Verde, we are the best team in the group where Tanzania and Lesotho are.
Micho hailed the reception offered by the Cape Verde and also thanked his players for the commitment, hard work and following instructions to the dot.
This is very good football environment, football people. I respect my colleague and all his team and FA and all you people here.
You received us very well and despite a small hiccup yesterday, am happy with the dedication, commitment and hard work of the players led by Captain Denis Onyango following instructions up to last moment.
Despite winning away from home to take charge of the group from match day one, the Serbian says that doesn’t mean qualification is assured now.
First match doesn’t mean that we have already qualified but one very big step covered. We are now looking forward to qualifiers for the World Cup and then Afcon later.
Uganda Cranes now shift focus to CHAN qualifiers, FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifiers and then wait till next year for another match in the Afcon qualifiers, at home to neighbours Tanzania.
