Weatherhead [M] open their 2017 league campaign against title rivals Kampala Hockey Club Stallions on Saturday 17th June at the National Hockey Stadium, Lugogo, looking to kick-start the season strongly.
The two sides met at last weekend’s Weatherhead Open and the victory was for the side coached by Vincent Kasasa.
While Weatherhead lost to Bernard Bwire’s charges in their first meet at the Open, it was Weatherhead who triumphed when the sides met again, this time in the finals of the Open. Kasasa’s boys beat KHC 4-2 on penalties to have a taste of their own trophy for only their first time in history.
It was victory that Kasasa believes will motivate the players as they seek to end a six year wait for the league trophy. Kasasa believes his players are hungry for more success.
Heading into their first game of the season, the side will be hopeful for a better campaign and they will be driven by the will to register more success.
Opponents KHC will be hopeful for a good start too as they seek to avenge the Open loss, and like their Saturday opponents, KHC will be hoping to end Wananchi’s league dominance.
A win on Saturday against direct title rivals will be super victory as their pursuit for league glory starts.
The Stallions started slowly last Saturday, but as the game progressed, equal share of possession was witnessed, with both sides threatening. The same is expected tomorrow when the two teams meet.
KHC finished the league last term placed third while Weatherhead were league runners-up.
