With less than three days left to the start of the 2017 National Chess League, thirty three teams have confirmed participation.

The 33 are a mixture of last year’s Division 1 and Division 2 leagues. This follows Uganda Chess Federation’s [UCF] decision to merge the two divisions into one pool, meaning clubs will not be relegated to the lower division.

The Royal Knights are among the 33 teams. The side will be competing in the league for the first time ever.

While The Royal Knights have joined the league, Maisha Chess Club are yet to communicate their stand. Out of the 30 teams that competed last season, only Maisha hasn’t shown interest.
