The Brazilians went into the game on the back of a 2-1 home loss to the Tunisian outfit and targeted maximum points.

However, they could do little to break down the resilient hosts back-line but on a positive note, kept things tight at the back with Onyango making good saves to keep the score goalless.

The draw lifts the reigning African champions to second on the group C table with 5 points, three adrift of Esperance but same with Ethiopia’s Saint George with two rounds to play.

Sundowns’ next game is on Saturday July 1 away to St. George, a side that held them to a goalless draw in South Africa in their first group game.

Earlier in the group, St. George fell to DR Congo’s AS Vita 2-1 in Kinshasa thanks to a double from ex-Rwanda international Tady Etekiama.
