Kenya’s Dilraj Chatthe is already revved up by his participation in the Pearl of Africa Rally next weekend.

Dilraj, a cousin to 2015 Africa and Kenyan Rally Champion Jaspreet Chatthe will be making his debut in the Pearl Rally. It will also be his first outing away from Kenya.

“I have been part of the Pearl Rally twice, but as a spectator in 2014 and 2015.

“Now as a driver, it’s going to be my first outing, and what a better place to do that than Uganda where the fans are so passionate about rallying.

“The atmosphere in the Uganda rally is just amazing and wonderful. I am very excited to do my first event outside Kenya, I cannot wait,” said the excited Dilraj.

The 20-year-old started rallying in 2015. He has however only managed to finish one of three events.

“I have been unfortunate in the past events I have done. But hopefully we will improve that by having a good finish at the Pearl rally.”

Kenyan rookie has set his target for Pearl Rally.

“My target is obviously to have a good finish but most of all just to have fun and enjoy the rally.

“I really want to start of my debut in Uganda on a good note by finishing. Plan is to do a good recce, start with a good pace and improve as the rally goes on.”

“I will have no pressure though. I will just focus on my rally and improving my pace ad experience,” he said.

Dilraj will rely on his co-driver Riyaz Ismail’s experience to achieve his target.

“My co-driver is good. He has competed in a lot more events and also raced with quite a few different drivers.

“So he has more experience that I can benefit from as I improve my skills,” he said.

Dilraj Chatthe will be the youngest driver in this year’s Pearl of Africa Rally.
