The Zimbabwe Sables are enjoying life at the summit of the log in this year’s Africa Gold Cup.

After match day one held over the weekend, the Sables rely on their 28-16 win over Senegal to dictate matters early in the campaign.

Zimbabwe, faced by huge financial burdens prior to the campaign, are top with five points while Kenya and Uganda, who played out to a 33-33 draw, sit second and third respectively.

The two East African rivals have accumulated two points while Senegal are at the base of the log.

Namibia and Tunisia are yet to play their first games of the competition.

For every win attained, a team gets four points, two for a draw, 0 in a defeat and an extra one point for a team that scores more than four tries to win a game.

The Africa Gold Cup will return this Saturday July 1 with last year’s winners Namibia travelling up North for a duel with Tunisia.

Senegal, who lost at home to Zimbabwe, will play their second home game when they host Uganda Rugby Cranes.

The Kenya Simbas, who won the Elgon Cup over the weekend, will take to the pitch on July 8 when they host Tunisia.
