The Uganda U19 team currently in Nairobi preparing for the Cricket World Cup qualifiers that start on 1st July lost to a very strong Kenyan Select Side by 30 runs.

However, they will be lots of positives taken from the game than negatives. The team managed to score 290 runs in the run chase with heavy contributions from the middle order.

The Kenyan select side had the likes of Dhiren Ghondaria, Emmanuel Bundi, Gurdeep Singh and Kaul Karan in their ranks.

The Kenyan Select side won the toss and elected to bat first amassing a big total of 323/9 in 50 overs. Gurdeep Singh (73) and Zaid Abbas (94) stared with the bat for the select side, while Captain Kenneth Waiswa (2/75) and Frank Akankwasa (2/44) were the pick of the bowlers for the U19 side. Trevor Bukenya (1/61), Wambose Steven (1/26) and Agaba Eddie (1/33) picked up a wicket each.

In reply, the U19 side was able to post 290/7 in their 50 overs with Eddie Agaba (80), Steven Wambose (73) and hard hitting Roger Olipa (49) were the heaviest contributors with the bat.

Coach Francis Otieno will need to concentrate on his bowlers who were very generous before they take on Botswana in the first game.

Uganda plays Botswana in their opening game on July 1.

Denis has represented Uganda in international cricket events including the World Cup. He is currently the captain of Wanderers Cricket Club.
