The 5th Uganda International Woodball Championship teed off at the lake side fairways of Kisubi Beach on Friday.
The three-day championship started on a rather positive note with competitions in the Primary and Secondary School categories.
Buziga Islamic and Bonan Schools dominated the male and female respective genders under the Junior categories.
Entebbe based Airforce Secondary School rocked in the secondary section.
Chinese ambassador in Uganda H.E Zheng Zhu Qiang was chief guest at the day long event that has attracted as many as 30 schools in either categories.
Flanked by the World Woodball federation president, Mping Hui Weng, his African vice president, also the Uganda Woodball President, Paul Mark Kayongo and other dignitaries, Weng thanked the Uganda federation for promoting the game on the continent and in Uganda.
“I thank the Uganda Woodball Federation in a special way for the efforts to promote Woodball,” he spoke in Chinese through an interpreter.
The primary and secondary competitions were completed on Friday and the rest of the championship continues on Saturday before the climax on Sunday.
There are 11 African countries taking part in the championship and four Asian countries.
Hosts Uganda were joined by neigbours Tanzania, Kenya, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Comoros, Burundi, Rwanda, Nigeria, South Sudan and Zimbabwe.
The 4 Asian countries are Singapore, Malaysia, Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong.
Vicent Kisenyi, the vice president of the Uganda Woodball Federation has lauded all the partners and sponsors for successful event being hosted in Uganda.
There was fun and merry making by Crane Entertainment group during the colourful official opening ceremony.
