Uganda has put one foot into the U19 Cricket World Cup after defeating Kenya by 69 runs on Tuesday.

On a very chilly day at Jafferys Club, Kenya won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Ronald Opio and Zephaniah Katungi put on 51 for the first wicket before the former was bowled for 7.

Katungi (42) and Stephen Wambose (44) steadied the skip for a while but both fell in quick succession

Team Captain Kenneth Waiswa (60) carried the team as wickets fell around him, Siraje Nsubuga (43) batted well with the tail helping Uganda post a competitive 231 all out in 48 overs.

In reply, Kenya was quickly reduced to 27/4 with Trevor Bukenya taking advantage of the freeze to bowl some very good swing. He finished with figures of 3/8 in his 7 overs.

A 101 partnership between Bhudia (52) and Ochieng (54) gave some hope to Kenya but after Bhudia was brilliantly caught and bowled by Siraje the writing was already on the wall.

Some brilliant fielding helped Uganda wrap the tail with Siraje (2/38) and Wambose (2/11) claiming 2 wickets each.

Uganda now has won all its 3 games and sits comfortably on top of the table in the round-robin tournament with the top team going straight to the World Cup.

Tomorrow, Uganda plays Botswana at Gymkhana which should favor the pace attack of Uganda.

Denis has represented Uganda in international cricket events including the World Cup. He is currently the captain of Wanderers Cricket Club.
