Vipers SC patron Lawrence Mulindwa has urged his players to put the average season behind them and win trophies in the forthcoming 2017-18 season.

The former FUFA President said this at a dinner organised by the club at Serena Victoria Hotel, Kigo on Monday July 5 attended by the players, staff and a couple of fans.

The dinner, dubbed a consultative meeting was also graced Portuguese coach Jorge Miguel Duarte Da Costa who had just landed a few hours from his holidays.

“This meeting comes at the right time,” stated Mulindwa.  “It’s meant to send a message to whoever is part of us to understand what our mission and target is next season,” he added.

This is the time to assemble people who are ready to work. We need to work together as a team. As management, you have our support.

Focus and attitude

The two-time league champions ended last season in the 3rd place on the league log and were also dumped out of the Uganda Cup at the quarter final stage by lower league side, Paidha Black Angels.

Mulindwa expressed his discontent at what he described as finishing in miserable third season questioning the attitude of players.

If I look around, we have the kind of players if focused, can’t fail to be champions. But lack of commitment and focus is the reason we under performed.

It’s surprising and hurting that at times people who inject little can win titles. What reason can you give as players to the outside why we didn’t perform last season?

Season Hakuna Muchezo

With the team expected to begin pre-season training on Saturday July 8, Mulindwa went further to request whoever isn’t ready to match the club’s ambition in a campaign ‘Hakuna Muchezo’ to leave the club.

It makes no sense to have 30-40 players if only 16 are useful. If any of you here feels he can’t match our demands, and then hand in a transfer request, we shall let you go even if though it may be expensive on our side. We shall accept your request.

Portuguese coach Miguel Duarte joined the club in the second half of the season and under him, the club showed glimpses of character and form but it was too little too late.

Nevertheless, Mulindwa feels the Portuguese now knows the environment.

It’s fortunate you were here to scan the environment. And hopefully this time, we have the right people ready to work and provide a huge contribution.
