Ugandan midfielder cum striker Joseph Mpande is a now a house hold name in the Myanmar football circles for two obvious reasons – creating scoring opportunities and finding the back of the net himself.
The City Yangon player has been on the lips of every football fan in the country.
This season alone, Mpande has scored 6 hat-tricks that have elevated his club aloft the leaderboard of the second tier league and attained promotion to the elite league.
Mpande’s latest splendid performance was the 4-2 home victory against City Stars, earning promotion.
On 47 points from 17 games, City Yangon has already promoted to the top division with 3 games to spare. Second placed Mahar United has 36 points from the same number of games played.
Mpande attributes his superb form to self-discipline and committed display.
In an exclusive interview with Kawowo Sports from his home base, the former Vipers and Ndejje University player noted;
I am on a mission. I came here (Myanmar) to work with diligence.
It is hard work, discipline, teamwork and commitment that has driven me this far
Against City Stars, Mpande’s side which had fallen to an early goal from Aung Phyo Phyo recovered with the equalizer from the man of the moment himself, scoring a minute after the opening quarter hour mark.
His second came in added time of the first half before wrapping the hat trick in the 78th minute.
Mpande comfortably leads the scoring charts with 29 goals off 17 goals.
According to his Turkish representative Omer Selli, an avalanche of offers from Mynamar and clubs in Croatia have flooded the gifted player’s way.
“The offers are irresistible and many, thanks to his good form this season. First priority is given to the current club for the opportunity presented as we weigh in the other options,” Omer, who has recently attained a CAF C coaching licence in Uganda adds.
Mpande left Uganda for Myanmar in 2016 in a stormy transfer that left some of the top club officials at Vipers surprised of the move since it was conducted behind their backs.
