Express FC Nigerian defender Vincent Onyebuchi will not play football again.
This was revealed by doctors at Comprehensive Rehabilitation Services in Uganda (CoRSU) in Kisubi where he is set to undergo surgery after he broke a bone in his left leg during a Premier League match against Proline last season at Wankulukuku.
The defender who first got treatment at Mengo Hospital and later a privately owned Lisa Medical Centre received the sad news on Thursday on his second visit at the Kisubi facility.
“It’s sad that Onyebuchi has been told his career is over,” former Express FC CEO Hamza Jjunju, who was at Kisubi told Kawowo Sports. “It’s a sad state but for now, the most important thing is to ensure he doesn’t lose his leg,” he added.
Meanwhile, the doctors also confirmed that the Nigerian import will have to undergo over 8-9 surgeries.
This implies that the earlier estimated Shs. 10 million will not be enough with the medication now expected to cost over three times the amount.
Fans Drive
With Express FC seemingly not interested in taking care of the bills, the Red Eagles fans have started a drive to raise funds for the player’s treatment.
Nevertheless, the target was 10 million and it remains to be seen how the hefty bill of over Shs. 30 million will be handled.
