Avice Meya will captain Uganda’s three-man team at the 17th edition of the FINA World Swimming Championships due July 14-30 in Budapest, Hungary.

The team coached by Muzafaru Muwanguzi departs on July 20, 2017.

Meya will be joined by Joshua Ekirikubinza and debutant Ismail Serunjoji.

“It is going to be stiff, it is is going to be tough because the fastest swimmers are going to compete but we will do our best,” team captain Avice Meya told Kawowo Sports after they were flagged off by NCS’s David Katende on Friday.

“We are looking forward to the experience and also motivating other swimmers,” added the Silverfin Academy swimmer.

Joshua Ekirikubinza competing at his third World Championships after Barcelona (2013) and Kazan (2015) will take on the 50m breast and 100m free.

“We use these events to build towards bigger things,” Uganda’s 2016 Olympian remarked. “For Budapest, we are all hoping to cut down on our times and build towards the next four years.”

The delegation will be led by Uganda Swimming Federation general secretary Moses Mwase.
