Table leaders Dmark take to the board this Sunday against Crestals seated second in the league as the National Chess League returns at Hotel Africana.

The record league winners who savored their start to the season a fortnight ago with two unadulterated victories against Ndejje University and Makindye in the 1st and 2nd round respectively entertain Maria Nakanyike’s Crestals in the 3rd round.

While Dmark were the only side to win all there games on the opening weekend, Crestals didn’t suffer any defeat. The side won eight boards and shared spoils on only two boards, with Nakanyike, an eleven year old producing one of the highlights of the weekend with her checkmate.

Dmark are overwhelming favorites in this tie but Crestals will nonetheless hope for a rare victory.

Defending champions Kireka face a tricky opponent in the third round in SOM Katwe. Led by Benjamin Mukumbya, SOM nearly stunned Kireka last season. The two met in the first round and Kireka had to fight really hard to edge the tie 3-2.

On that meet, only FM Haruna Nsubuga and Peninah Nakabo won their respective boards. FM Harold Wanyama on board one lost while Simon Gonza and Edgar Ntende drew their respective games.

Kireka will be wary of the side when they meet, and will want a convincing win.

In other selected games, Mulago knights currently third in the table standings face Chess Warriors placed just a place below them.

And seventh placed Lweza take on MUBS seated fourteen.
