The top two sides in the league will go head to head on Sunday when Weatherhead Gazelles meet Deliverance Church Uganda at the National Hockey Stadium, Lugogo.
The two are both on six points collected from two games and will both hope for a positive outcome on Sunday.
Weatherhead lead the table on goal difference. The 2014 league winners opened their season with a comfortable 3-0 win over debutants Rhino – a team that was formed by six members who broke away from Kampala Swans – before being involved in another convincing victory against woeful Swans a fortnight ago.
The Gazelles were to play defending champions Wananchi last weekend but due to their visit to Mbarara inspired by their recruitment and development program, the game was postponed. They now head into their third game of the campaign looking to consolidate their stay atop.
With Wananchi likely to beat Rhinos easily, Weatherhead know only a good result will keep them at the top of the table. And while it is still early days, the record league champions can’t afford to slip tomorrow if they are to keep their hopes of winning the title they last won four years ago alive given rivals Wananchi hardly end games on a losing end.
Against Deliverance though, the Gazelles are up against a much stronger opposition compared to their first two opponents, but they should be able to negotiate their way past the side they beat four times last year.
Deliverance, like Weatherhead need the three points to maintain their winning ways. They beat Rhinos 4-3 in their first game and followed that victory with a brilliant 4-0 win over KHC.
They will hope for the same tomorrow.
