Weatherhead came from behind to edge Simba 2-1 and secure their second victory of the campaign on Saturday at the National Hockey Stadium, Lugogo.
Goals from player-coach Vincent Kasasa and forward Moses Tushabe were enough to give the 2011 league champions the three needed points after trailing Ali Mohammad’s side for close to thirty minutes.
Javier Francisco gave Simba the deserved lead as early as the fourth minute following Weatherhead’s slow start, and that is how it stayed until Javier turned villain in the 31st minute when he kicked the ball as if in a football match and Weatherhead won a flick.
Kasasa coolly slotted the ball to level proceedings and the first 35 minutes ended with both sides at par.
Simba were outplayed in the second half, with Weatherhead winning numerous short corners, and it was just a matter of time before Ali’s team conceded.
They succumbed in the 59th minute and expectedly, the goal came from a short corner. Tushabe took the corner and, well fed Peter Elolu who then returned the ball to Tushabe and Simba’s goalkeeper could do less to prevent a well-positioned Tushabe from scoring.
It was a hot tempered game that saw Ahmed Maliki red carded for intentionally hitting Kasasa with his stick. Kasasa was taken off the field for treatment and never returned.
Victory kept Weatherhead second in the league. They cut the gap atop to three points, with Kampala Stallions leading the pack with 9points.
Simba, meanwhile remain second last with three points.
